Personally I would keep your Part solid (remove the shell) and change the sketch dims and feature by the Thickness. Export the thickness value. Start a Sheetmetal part and Derive the solid into the SM file. To change the corner seam gap, you need to change the seam gap in sheet metal defaults. Click on sheet metal defaults to open, then change Miter/Rip/Seam gap as i have circled in the picture below. Change to the size you need it to be.
