Inside this gutter box the hots are splices and they go off and hit 4 different disconnects which hit 4 separate panels. Inside this gutter box, the neutrals and grounds are all bonded together and bonded to the housing. This is incorrect? Just wondering, what is the purpose of gutter boxes. I'm a new electrician, my foreman explained it to me, but i didn't understand. There's 4 emt pipes coming in through the concrete wall, then its going straight up. But i'm supposed to install a gutter box.
Back in the early 1980s as a apprentice we used what we called gutter nipples to connect motor starter enclosures and fused and non fused disconnects to wireway, trough or gutter. The so called gutter nipples had 3 pieces, a locknut, a somewhat long chase nipple and a spacer that fit between the gutter and the enclosure.

I will be bringing a set of 350mcm into a wireway from overhead then tapping a set of 2/0's and #2's with some polaris connectors. Tapcon the box to the brick or throw a spacer behind it and screw into the sheathing behind the box. Install the light with the canopy that will cover it all. Profit. Sit down and eat your bacon sammie while watching the other guys . Grounding Conductors to Boxes.
